If you are using ExpertGPS 7.20 or 7.21, please download a new version of ExpertGPS immediately from https://www.expertgps.com/download.asp ExpertGPS 7.20 included a complete rewrite of the code that ExpertGPS uses to open and save GPX files. During the rewrite, I made an error when reading elevation data from waypoints in GPX files. Elevation data in GPX is always stored in meters, but if ExpertGPS was configured to display elevations in feet (as would likely be the case for many users in the United States), I erroneously applied a feet-to-meters conversion to the waypoint elevation data. If ExpertGPS was configured to display elevations in meters, the waypoint elevation data will be correct. You can check the ExpertGPS display settings for elevation by clicking Change Units of Measure on the Options menu. If the elevation setting is Feet, any waypoints with elevation data would be scaled by 0.3048 if you opened and then saved a GPX file. Elevation data in tracks was not affected and will be correct. Steps to take if you have used ExpertGPS 7.20 or 7.21 and had your elevations displaying in feet: 1. Download the latest version of ExpertGPS from https://www.expertgps.com/download.asp 2. Identify any GPX files you opened and saved using the affected releases. ExpertGPS 7.20 was first available on Oct 14th, so any GPX file with a modification date between Oct 14 and Oct 22 may be affected. Open each file in the latest version of ExpertGPS and look at the elevation column in the Waypoint List. (If the elevation column is not visible, click Select Columns on the List menu). If the elevation data has been corrupted, all of the waypoints in the file will show elevations three or more times smaller than expected. If possible, restore the file from a backup, or import the waypoint data again from a known good source. 3. If you own a recent Garmin GPS that stores data in GPX files, any waypoint data you received from the GPS using 7.20 or 7.21 may also be affected. The data on the GPS remains correct and unchanged, and you should be able to Receive Waypoints from GPS in the latest version of ExpertGPS to recover the correct elevation data.
